If you’re feeling overloaded with sweets after the holidays, here’s a savory snack with no added sugar that’s simple and satisfying. I served this ranch and ham cheese ball as an appetizer for Thanksgiving and it was a big hit—both adults and kids came back for more. It also makes a thoughtful neighbor gift paired with a box of crackers, and conveniently balances out all the sweet treats.
Yummy Ranch and Ham Cheese Ball
Ingredients:
– 8 oz cream cheese (light cream cheese works well because it’s softer and easy to spread)
– 1 Tbsp ranch dressing mix (homemade or store-bought)
– 1/2–3/4 cup very finely diced ham (use a food processor or finely chop by hand)
– 1/2 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
– 1/4–1/3 cup finely chopped pecans
Directions:
1. Beat the cream cheese and ranch dressing mix together until smooth and well combined.
2. Stir in the finely diced ham and shredded cheddar until evenly distributed.
3. Shape the mixture into a ball or a log, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, and chill for at least one hour to firm up.
4. Unwrap the chilled cheese, roll it in the chopped pecans so the nuts adhere to the outside, then re-wrap and chill again if desired.
5. Serve with crackers or fresh vegetables for dipping.
Notes: For easier preparation, pulse the ham and pecans in a food processor until finely chopped. The recipe scales easily—double the ingredients for a larger crowd. Store any leftovers tightly wrapped in the refrigerator for up to a few days.
