Summer is here, and the Sweet Hot Mama Cocktail is the perfect seasonal drink to try. This easy spicy pineapple margarita blends sweet pineapple, bright citrus, tequila and a touch of heat — finished with a little fizz for a refreshing, balanced cocktail.

What Cocktail Can I Make with Pineapple Juice?
Pineapple juice makes a fantastic base for cocktails because it adds natural sweetness and tropical acidity. The Sweet Hot Mama Cocktail is essentially a spicy pineapple margarita — pineapple juice, tequila, sweet-and-sour, a splash of seltzer and a few drops of hot sauce. The result is bright, slightly fizzy and pleasantly spicy without overpowering the fruit.

I first tasted a similar pineapple-and-spice cocktail at an event and have been chasing that flavor ever since. After experimenting at home, I landed on a combination that captured the sweet, spicy and fizzy elements I remembered — and it’s become a new summer favorite.
Sweet and spicy pair naturally: the sugar in pineapple softens the heat, while a hint of jalapeño or hot sauce adds complexity. This cocktail strikes that balance, delivering a refreshing summer drink with a little kick.
Sweet Hot Mama Cocktail — Not Just for the Mamas
The name Sweet Hot Mama nods to fun, memorable cocktails with attitude. Whether you’re serving friends, family or a backyard crowd, this drink is approachable and crowd-pleasing. It’s fruity and mildly spicy, and many guests will ask for a second glass.

A Spicy Pineapple Margarita
This spicy pineapple margarita brings together pineapple juice, tequila and sweet-and-sour mix, with seltzer for effervescence and a measured amount of hot sauce for heat. The spice level is easy to control — start with 4–5 drops of your favorite hot sauce and adjust to taste. A quick tip: add hot sauce to a small dish first so you can control the amount more precisely.

Pair this cocktail with savory party bites. The sweet-and-spicy profile complements grilled meats, skewers or tropical-inspired appetizers.
