Why you’ll love this recipe

Tiffin is the ultimate retro treat — sweet, chewy and wonderfully indulgent. It’s a no-bake recipe that’s quick to prepare and keeps well, making it perfect for sharing or packing as a nostalgic gift. The malted milk biscuits and milk bottle sweets give this version a distinctive malty, creamy edge that sets it apart from standard chocolate tiffins.

The base method is flexible, so you can swap mix-ins depending on what you have in the cupboard. This recipe uses a mix of dark and milk chocolate to balance sweetness, plus Munchies and chopped milk bottles for texture and flavour.

Ingredients

Everything you need for around 13 bars. Substitutions are noted where relevant.

  • Butter – 100g unsalted butter recommended. If you only have salted, reduce any extra salt elsewhere.
  • Golden syrup – 2 tbsp. In the US, light corn syrup can be used though the flavour will differ slightly.
  • Chocolate – 200g dark and 200g milk chocolate, broken into pieces. Using both balances sweetness; feel free to adjust to taste.
  • Malted milk biscuits – 200g. The malted flavour is important here, so try not to substitute unless necessary.
  • Chocolate chip cookies – 100g. Any crunchy choc chip biscuits work well.
  • Munchies – 125g. These caramel-filled chocolate treats add texture; Rolos are a good alternative.
  • Milk bottle sweets – 100g, halved. Chewy milk-flavoured sweets provide contrast; other similar chewy candies can be used.

Top tips

  • Swap-ins are fine — aim for similar volume so the texture stays balanced.
  • Melt the chocolate gently (double boiler or short microwave bursts). Rapid heating can split the chocolate.
  • If you prefer easier slicing, skip whole biscuits on top and press smaller pieces in instead.

No Bake Malted Milk Munchies Tiffin – Step by Step

This recipe includes UK metric and US cup measurements.

Ingredients (for 13 bars)

  • 100g (1/3 Cup + 1 tbsp) Unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp Golden syrup
  • 200g (7 oz) Dark chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 200g (7 oz) Milk chocolate, broken into pieces
  • 200g (7 oz) Malted milk biscuits
  • 100g (3.5 oz) Chocolate chip cookies
  • 125g (1 Cup) Munchies
  • 100g (2/3 Cup) Milk bottles, cut in half

Essential equipment

  • 20cm (8″) square baking tin
  • 2 large glass mixing bowls
  • Saucepan (for double boiler) or microwave-safe bowl
  • Spatula, rolling pin and metal spoon

Instructions

  1. Line the baking tin with baking paper and set aside.
  2. Place the butter, golden syrup and both chocolates in a large glass bowl. Melt gently over a pan of barely simmering water, stirring until smooth, or microwave in 10-second bursts, stirring between bursts. Allow to cool slightly.
  3. Remove 13 malted milk biscuits from the pack and reserve for the top. Put the remaining malted biscuits and the choc chip cookies into a second bowl and crush into small pieces using the end of a rolling pin.
  4. Add the Munchies and the halved milk bottles to the crushed biscuits and stir to combine.
  5. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the biscuit mix and fold until everything is thoroughly coated.
  6. Tip the mixture into the prepared tin and press down firmly with the back of a metal spoon to compact evenly.
  7. Press the reserved malted milk biscuits into the top, then chill in the fridge for 2–3 hours or overnight to set.
  8. Once set, slice into 13 bars and serve.
