How To Make Orange Bread

While the yeast proofs, measure and prepare all ingredients so the process flows smoothly.

Warm the orange juice and butter together until about 100–110°F so the mixture is warm but not hot.

After the yeast has proofed, add the dry ingredients.

Add the sugar and combine with the flour and salt.

Slowly pour in the warm orange-butter mixture while mixing to form a batter.

Add the eggs and mix until incorporated.

Stir in the remaining flour to form a stiff batter or dough.

Gently fold in grated apples for moisture and texture.

Divide the batter between two well-greased 8½ x 4-inch loaf pans. Cover loosely and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled, about 60–90 minutes. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 35–45 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

Once the loaves are cool, whisk powdered sugar with heavy cream to make a thick, pourable icing, then drizzle over the loaves. Slice and serve.

This sweet, citrus-scented bread is beautiful for holiday gatherings or any special breakfast. The icing adds a lovely finishing touch and keeps the slices moist.
